Why Interlocking Pavers Outperform Poured Concrete in Nevada
Desert soils are notorious for high clay content and expansive caliche layers, which cause poured concrete driveways and patios to crack within a few seasons. Interlocking pavers act as a flexible pavement system, absorbing structural shifting and expanding and contracting naturally through thermal cycles without catastrophic fracturing.
Our Multi-Step Subgrade Engineering
The beauty of a paver patio is only as reliable as what lies beneath. Sun City Landscaping follows strict Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute (ICPI) installation methods:
- Deep Excavation & Caliche Clearing: Excavating 7 to 9 inches for vehicular driveways and 5 inches for pedestrian walkways.
- Crushed Aggregate & Laser Screed Sand: Mechanically tamped road base finished with coarse washed concrete sand.
- Perimeter Concrete Haunching / Edge Restraints: Steel-spiked commercial edges ensure pavers will never creep or spread outward.
- Joint Polymeric Sand Activation: High-polymer sand seals joints to prevent weed growth and insect burrowing.
